The Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention offer these everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of flu-like illnesses.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with your hands.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
• Stay home when you are sick and until you are fever free for a minimum of 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
