Lifting of COVID Restrictions

Dear Brothers,

Both the Diocesan COVID Task Force and Presbyteral Council convened this week and they specifically discussed Gov. Wolf’s lifting of the COVID business restrictions on Memorial Day. Given this news, and with the unanimous recommendation of both advisory groups, Bishop Gainer is announcing that the Diocese will be lifting capacity limits for Masses for the weekend of May 29/30. The only restriction that will remain in place is the masking mandate until it is lifted by the Governor. Although capacities are being lifted, masks covering the nose and mouth must continue to be worn and the Sign of Peace will continue to be omitted. The Dispensation from the Obligation of attending Mass also remains in place. Fr Brommer will be sending additional guidance before then as well.

Additionally, following the most recent guidance from the CDC, beginning May 29 we are relaxing the guidelines regarding cleaning and sanitizing. Churches should be cleaned once a day and no longer need to be sanitized after every Mass. However, if a positive case is reported, cleaning and sanitizing will need to take place before the next Mass.

A media release announcing the Mass capacity changes will be provided to the press on Sunday afternoon. Please feel free to announce these pending changes at all Masses this weekend. Moreover, by the end of May, information regarding parish office operations will be distributed from our Human Resources Office.

As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly.

Fraternally Yours in Christ, Dave
