Knights of Columbus

Thanks to the efforts of Venerable Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.

The  St. Katharine Drexel Knights of Columbus Council #13100 thanks everyone who generously donated to the Socktober 2017 sock drive. We received the following message of appreciation from the drive coordinator:

Although you engage in many other charitable efforts, you also accepted our request to collect new socks for people who are struggling for daily necessities. Within a few weeks you donated nearly 400  new pairs of socks! Your contribution helped to swell the total sock collection (that happened at 17 different locations) to 4,651 pairs of socks that will be delivered to local agencies who will distribute these socks to people who need them. In a sense, you were obedient to Jesus’ call to wash the feet of others in humility and love. Imagine — the many hundreds of people in Central Pennsylvania whose feet will be warmed and kept clean — a testimony to God’s love in action.

Our Council’s History
Our Council 13100 was chartered in 2002 as a District 64 Council on the feast day of Saint Katharine Drexel, March 3, as Knights Council #13100. Father James R. O’Brien, the founding pastor of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Mechanicsburg, welcomed our Council to make SKD our permanent home. The Council graciously accepted Father O’Brien’s welcome. Today, we are a growing Council of fifty plus members serving the needs of our Saint Katharine Drexel parish community in partnership with Father Kenneth G. Smith, while extending our charitable work throughout our community.
