Parent Handbook for Faith Formation 2021 – 2022

Welcome Letter from the Pastor

September 2021

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our new year of Faith Formation in our St. Katharine Drexel Parish Family.

We do so during a second year in a global and national pandemic with many fluid elements.

We are especially concerned about the safety and security and health of our children and families.

The following talking points are important ones to reflect on and strive to put into practice this year.

• The Fall Semester will be one of review and concentrate on some of the key lessons from last year while beginning the new year’s lessons and curriculum.

• An emphasis on a family-based model of faith formation rather than a classroom-based model.

There needs to be a healthy balance between classroom and catechist and family catechesis with parents as the first teachers in word, action and example (witness).

• An emphasis on Sunday Mass Attendance and the Celebration of the Sacrament of Penance.

• A need for ongoing communication and partnership between parents, catechists, coordinator and parish in the faith formation of our children.

• A need for ongoing parent faith formation opportunities.

• An emphasis on procedures for our children’s safety and security and health

• Flexibility, listening, dialogue, compromise, patience and respect are the hall marks of our Faith Formation Program

Sincerely,

Fr. Kenneth G. Smith

Pastor
