Spiritual Adoption Program

We warmly invite you as parishioners of SKD to join the Spiritual Adoption Program that the Harrisburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (HDCCW) is planning for all the parishes in the Diocese.  The nine-month program will begin on Friday, January 29, 2021 when the March for Life is taking place in Washington, D.C. and will end in October 2021, Respect Life Month.

At the conclusion of the program a baby shower will be held in November (date to be announced) at the Diocesan Center in Harrisburg for those who have been participating.  At that time, we would invite the participants to donate baby items which will be donated to pregnancy centers in the Diocese.  Details of items needed would be on the HDCCW website: hdccw.webs.com.

The program has three elements:

  • To pledge a daily prayer for nine months for a baby who is in danger of abortion
  • To educate parishioners about the development of the unborn child
  • To influence the hearts and minds of parishioners to value life

Parishioners who plan to participate should fill out a Spiritual Adoption Card.

Each month for nine months participants will receive a report from the Legislation/Respect Life Commission of the HDCCW on the development of the adopted baby in the womb.

It is our fervent hope that you will support this program and that your parishioners will spiritually adopt an unborn baby.  Prayer is the best weapon to help them – the most effective.

We ask that those interested in spiritually adopting an unborn baby in danger of being aborted will pray daily for nine months to save a baby’s life:

“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much.

I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby

that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

(Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.)

Additionally,  pray one Hail Mary for the child’s mother.

Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
