Parish Pastoral Council Role

The Pastoral Council exists at St Katharine Drexel in order to provide consultation from the parishioners to the parish staff concerning pastoral activity and initiative. The members of the Council prayerfully concern themselves with the Parish Mission while embracing also the Mission of the Diocese of Harrisburg. The activities and proceedings within the Council are set for through its own Constitution and Bylaws thereby ensuring not only it’s governing guidelines but also providing visibility and accountability. (A copy of this document is available.)

Membership consists of 11 voting members and any non-voting members as the Pastor directs according to his consultative needs. Currently there are 9 serving of which a third is to be elected each calendar year. For this purpose, a nominating committee from the Council has been formed that will offer to Fr. Ken a list of candidates. These members can be nominated to the committee this month of March.

Nominations were accepted until May 1st. This year there are seven (7) nominees who will be voted on by SKD parishioners during the weekend of May 21 and 22, 2022 during the weekend Masses. The weekend prior to the election, the church bulletin contained an insert featuring the 7 candidates. The same information is available on the website.

The results from the election will be ranked and the top three will take their seats in July at the first meeting. Others who were nominated but not the top three will be alternates.

Covid has been a major factor in the Council activities; but, have continued as Fr. Ken has needed. Generally, the Council meets 5 times per year.  Open questions on this electoral process or the functioning of the Council can be made to any of the present council members.

We all have opinions and different perspectives on the ministries and direction of the parish life. Being a Parish Council member offers the opportunity to be a part of that direction in partnership with Fr Ken. Membership offers a truly unique way to serve our Lord that bears much responsibility but offers the satisfaction of that desire to Love and Serve.
